Georgia Art & Architecture

Architectural Art #1:
This a picture of 191 Peachtree tower, at 770 feet tall it is one of the tallest skyscapers in Atlanta. It is among the tallest 200 buildings in the world.

Architectural Art #2:
This architecture is a boat house at Callaway Gardens, just south of La Grange, GA.

It is a beautiful canal cut into the land to shelter the fishing boats they rent out. The little stone marina is beautiful, and somehow fits into the surroundings although it is unexpected.

Architectural Art#3: Chateau Elan, Braselton, Ga.

....The Chateau Elan is on of the most elite and prestegious wineries in the United States. From the official website..."Within the sweeping panorama of the north Georgia foothills, just 40 minutes north of Atlanta but a world away from the bustling city is Château Élan. Here on 3,500 acres, French provincial and Southern hospitality combine to produce a superb leisure and conference destination". The beautiful structure has over 270 deluxe rooms, with over 20 suites and 17 accessible neighboring rooms, five premeire suites and a 1,847 sq ft Presidential room. It was founded and constructed in 1982 by Dr. Don Panoz. This is a picture of my aunt in front of the structure on her 31st wedding anniversary. The entire building is 5 stories and has 2 raises in the roof that rise over 60 feet tall. The "resort" is used as a selling home to wine, a vacation and tourist spot, a place that conducts weddings, conferences, holds over 15 festivals per year, and also has an underground winery along with a golf course.

Public Art #1: group of structures (7 feet tall each) in South Georgia....This is a picture of one of 167 wheels mounted to wooden posts in a field. This field is located in Nahunta, Georgia off of highway 301. This particular wheel is on the edge of the field and from an ariel view, the wheelposts collectively provide an image of a heart. The heart is meant to commemorate the soldiers of the group "The Brunswick 7", who were 7 men who fought in the civil war. The soldiers "fought valiantly to preserve the lives of over sixty women and children" who were barracated in a safehouse from northern soldiers for over 2 weeks until the northerners moved to their next town, Waycross, Ga. Billy and Sully Driskell (1830-1902) created this artwork together in 1869 after the civil war concluded.

Public Art #2: Painting in Griffin, GA
This painting, a large picture of the Griffin depot as it looked in the early 20th century, hangs on the side of a restored building in downtown Griffin, just across from the railroad tracks. It serves to remind citizens and tell visitors of the town's past as an important railway stop, even though the trains today carry only cargo instead of passengers and make stops much less frequently.

Pubic Art #3: We Let the Dogs Out
This permanent public art exhibit in Athens, GA, close to the University of Georgia, is called "We Let the Dogs Out" and features three dozen larger-than-life painted bulldogs at street corners and in front of shops throughout the city.

EXTREME CLOSEUP (photofriday.com)

I think we all had the same basic idea for 'Extreme Closeup' - Scott's waterfall is the most different in the group.
